Description

This is how I imagine if I "humanize"(well not totally since I've added wings and feathers) one of the MLP characters. Been practicing lately human skin tones and values and put it to the test.

To be honest, this is one of the very few(let's say less than 10%) digital art pieces that I enjoy 100% drawing and comes from pure inspiration from my past faves. The body was supposed to be anthro, but remembering Maximum Ride. Then this is the result.

The skin-tones are exceptional, very lifelike and realistic. Particularly like the depth of the back of the hand and around the origin of the medial quads (or 'the groin', if you prefer).

The rest of the colour scheme works well. The soft feel of the belly tattooes is very nicely done.

The downside is that the skin's realism makes the other details a little more obvious - the hair and bikini are okay, though the highlights are a little too obviously just white patches rather than light reflecting off a 3D object. The wings look a little sketchy, all the more obvious when compared with the effort put into the skin.

The pose is nice, again quite realistic. The anatomy is good, although the torso seems slightly rotated compared with the hips (and not in a 'because she's twisting' way - her left abdomen continues smoothly into leg; on the right it suddenly flares out to hip/butt). It also looks like the right knee (her left) is skewed inward, but perhaps that's counterbalancing the hip/torso thing...

I love the subtle shyness of her expression. The shading around the nose feels a little awkward, though - the realism of skin-tones running up against the cartoonish nose. I'm a little mixed on the lips - on the one hand, they're a bit thin, giving her a monkey-ish look, suggesting thicker definition would help; on the other hand, that could lose some of the subtlety of her smile.

Overall, a high quality piece - looks like your work on skin has paid off. Work next on polishing up the rest, and your work will really shine.
